Getting to know Belize, by my Stomach

We have not seen a lot of Belize, but have had multiple opportunities to eat Belizean food. For the most part with an exchange rate of 2:1 in our favor, you can get a lot for your money. And it is also in your favor with taste. Not everything is excellent, but I have eaten everything on my plate, especially the burgers. Amazingly enough, they make them as good as home, definitely better than any restaurant burger I've had in years. This might be because they take time when making your food, a lot of time. Another reason for their delicious meals may be the use of local foods, although historically they have relied on imported foods.

Much of the menues in Belize share many of the dishes we are used to seeing in the US; including fried rice, pasta, nachos, and chicken fingers. They tend to not identify their restaurants by cuisine but merely as "restaurants". There are no McDonald's or any other food chains here. Just the unique qualities of each individually owned and operated mom & pop store. Chances are you are going to meet that person making your food, and getting a friendly hug.
