Ruined Flayva

What a great day. While we were supposed to go to the Mountain Pine Ridge, but the rain rendered us unable to, and we spent the morning shopping the market and gift shops. Coin purses are surprisingly popular here -- anyone want one? We ended up getting stuck at the outdoor cafe at which we ate lunch for several hours because steady rain prevented us from moving on, but we were outside under an umbrella as the rain fell around us, just hanging out for hours, and it was actually quite beautiful. The whole afternoon was very relaxed; we just talked and ate as the rain fell around us. We also tried our first Belizean chocolate; it was delicious. After the rain cleared up, we went to Cahal Pech, a Mayan ruin whose name means "Place of the Ticks." We diligently applied our bug spray. We climbed to the top of some of the ruins and toured around others. It felt very much like a fortress, and I can only imagine how much fun it would be to run around in as a kid. The time at the ruin concluded with the spotting of a guy in a Cincinnati Reds hat -- shoutout to the home town. Even though every plan we made today wound up readjusted, it was a great day, and I can't wait to see what Guatemala brings tomorrow!
