Belize Trip : Day 1

Well.  Long day.  Maybe it worked out for the better.  So we get at the airport around 3:30, just to be early.  We find out a bit later that our American Airline crew needed to rest since they came in late from their previous flight.  So that flight got delayed from 6:35 to 10 or so.  We get moved to Delta which was to depart at 9.  The crew came in late due to the snow, so that pushed us back just a little.  Like I said, we were supposed to depart at 9, but first we had to de-ice the plane.  And for some reason that was rather slow, so that took a good hour.  Almost ready to go!  Buuut then they remembered we needed to get water, since it was drained due to the freezing the night before.  But then because all that took so long, right as we got in queue to leave, they decided we needed more fuel.  So that took a bit longer.  We eventually got airborne around 11 instead of 9.  So naturally that means that we would not be able to make it to our flight to Belize on time, since it was to leave at 11:30 or so from Miami.  But the plane ride was incredible, being my first time, the view and feeling of flight was even more... well totally new.  Speaking of which, we were told that the plane we were riding in was really new, about 6 weeks old!  So that was a very nice aspect of the flight.  As soon as we landed, we were in a rush.  Dr. Skon was trying to get us to our next terminal (we landed around 2).  But after about 2 hours of waiting and Dr. Skon speaking with people in charge, it was determined that would not be able to leave for Belize tonight.  So the airport gave us a few meal tickets and put us up in a Best Western hotel.  Once we found the shuttle to get us to the hotel, it started going more smoothly.  There are much worse things that could have happened than getting stuck in Miami and getting put into a nice hotel.  But hopefully tomorrow we'll make it over to Belize!
